Influencing Without Authority as an Early PM: Focusing on People, Not Process

ProductCamp 2025, Session Proposals

In my first two years as a Product Manager, I learned that success rarely comes from having the perfect roadmap or the loudest ideas. It comes from understanding people, building trust one conversation at a time, and learning how to move things forward when no one reports to you.

This session is a reflection on that journey, the times I stumbled while aligning engineering and business goals, the lessons from tough stakeholder conversations, and the quiet wins that came from empathy, clarity, and persistence.

After a short introduction, we’ll open the floor for discussion. I want this to be a space where we all share what it’s really like to lead without authority, how to influence decisions, handle pushback, and earn credibility when you’re still early in your career.

You’ll walk away with practical, people-first strategies to strengthen collaboration, communicate with confidence, and create impact from wherever you sit today.
