Proposed Session:

Session Title: How can we help product management become a recognized profession?

Description: The product management profession to date has not received the same level of recognition enjoyed by project management or other equally important occupations.  Today each industry, company and even individual defines product management differently.  There is no standard definition of the role – no standard job description.  One person’s product manager is another’s program manager, product marketing manager or project manager. The profession does not benefit from any standard definitions of activities, deliverables or milestones.  All product management training is unique to the individual trainer.  The result is as many frameworks as there are trainers. The product management principles they teach vary drastically in content, scope and quality, despite its enormous potential impact on determining the success or failure of an entire enterprise.  How can we turn this around like PMI did for project management?
